Melissa L. Hagstrum is an associate in Larkin Hoffman’s Business Litigation practice group. She represents clients in litigation involving product liability, insurance coverage, wrongful death, personal injury, construction defect, toxic tort, dram shop liability, and breach of contract claims. She also advises and represents clients in guardianship and conservatorship matters. Prior Experience Melissa’s clients include product manufacturers, product designers, insurers, insureds, general contractors in the road construction industry, general contractors and subcontractors in the residential and commercial construction industries, railroad maintenance contractors, construction materials suppliers, asbestos-containing product manufacturers, small business owners, bar owners, restaurant franchisors and franchisees, domestic and foreign corporations, educational institutions, and charitable foundations. She also assists individuals and families who would like the court to appoint a guardian or conservator for an adult who is unable to meet his or her own personal needs or is unable to make responsible personal or financial decisions. Prior to joining Larkin Hoffman, Melissa was a litigator with a national law firm based in Minneapolis. She also worked for three years as a law clerk at an elder law and estate planning firm in Minneapolis, where she drafted wills, trusts, powers of attorney, probate documents, guardianship/conservatorship documents, special needs trust agreements, and premarital agreements. Before attending law school, Melissa taught high school English in Boston and the Twin Cities. She also serves as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem, appointed by the court to represent the best interests of children in need of protection or services in Ramsey County juvenile court proceedings. Melissa mentors first-year law students at William Mitchell College of Law. She is a member of the Hennepin County Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.

Governor Vetoes Tort-Reform Bills Passed by Legislature
Four tort reform bills recently were passed by the Minnesota House of Representatives and the Minnesota Senate. Despite vetos by Gov. Dayton, the substance of these bills are likely to reappear in legislation either later in this session or in future legislative sessions.

Larkin Hoffman Hosts Children's Law Center Training Program
The Children's Law Center of Minnesota will present a training program for child advocates representing youth in foster care. Larkin attorneys Marnie Moore and Melissa Hagstrum are volunteers with the CPC, and Melissa will be a panelist at the May 9th program. The program is from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (registration begins at 8:00 a.m.) at Larkin Hoffman Law Firm. 3.8 CLE credits (applied for).
